Colorvision Spyder Driver Windows 7

For anyone that's interested, I can confirm that the monitor profiling device Spyder2 works okay with Windows 8.
At first you might not think that it does. Once you've installed the software, and then plugged in the Spyder 2, Windows 8 gives the appearance of locating the driver and installing it.
It doesn't. It's a con.
If you run the software after Windows has finished 'installing' it, the software can't find your Spyder2 - and no amount of selecting it in the drop-down box will change that.
There's no point going to the device manager. The only way I'd discovered that Windows hadn't installed the device was by running the troubleshooter - at which point it tried to find the drivers for the Spyder2 and failed. Until this point, I had no idea that its previous attempt had failed. Microsoft must believe that ignorance is bliss and that you didn't really need to know whether Windows 8 had installed your hardware or not. That's handy - not!
Downloading the latest driver from the ColorVision website and installing that enables your Spyder2 software to detect the Spyder2 hardware and, after that, it works.
Windows 8 may look cool with its fancy boxes telling you it's installing the hardware and locating the drivers, but it's all a nasty con made to make you think Windows 8 is better than it is. It won't tell you when it fails to do something, it'll just hide its failures behind disappearing progress boxes leaving you to wonder why your device doesn't work. You might think that much of your hardware just isn't compatible and needs replacing. Don't be fooled. That's just Windows 8 tricking you.

Do not use the disc that came with it. Go to the website and download the updated software. I just did that for my Vista 64 bit and it works fine now.

Latest software for spyder2pro, 2.3.5 from februari 2007 for vista 64. That´s what I´m trying. Even run as for Vista and as admin. I can choose what profile I want, but I can´t calibrate. At the moment I using two OS, Vista 64 and Windows7 64. I have just picked the C:WindowsSystem32spooldriverscolorspyder2express.icm from vista and replaced it in Windows7. But I want to calibrate.

I asked Colorvision today and they replayed this:
'Dear Peter,
thank you for submitting a ticket and your faith in Datacolor products.
Windows 7 is a beta version and has not been finally released. There are many known issues with this. Also Microsoft has not yet fully released the internal specifications to the developers.
Microsoft self call this 'not for production use'.
You can be sure, that we will provide a solution to this problem once the final version of Windows 7 will be released.
Best regards,
Carsten Tschach
Tech. Dept. Datacolor AG, Brandbachstr. 10, 8305 Dietlikon / Zurich, Switzerland'
I think I will survive untill the release.

You may be able to force it to install the Vista 64-bit driver.

It is better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.. and make that sure your WiFi connection to your laptop is working.

Tagging along on this thread.
I also have a Spyder 2 that I can't install in WIndows 7.
I've tried the vista signed 64 bit install from colorvision's website and it didn't work.
I can't use the vista solution linked above because I don't have vista 32 or 64.
I've also tried the new F8 and go into 'Allow non signed driver' mode and that didn't work either. Now I see the Colorvision reply above and I'm sad. Etv bangla serial desirulez.

Update: I found on another forum that users of Win7 can install spyderexpress 2.3.6 and it will work on your system. Running 2.3.5, I was stuck detecting a sensor and had problems with the driver. But version 2.3.6 can be downloaded using the link below, or email me for a copy *(I'm burning it to disc to ensure I don't run across this problem again).

Spyder 2 will not install in a 64bit OS due to the digital signature issue (they never fixed it), but express will work. Spyder3 will work just fine as well.
There is a way to get spyder2 to install, but you need to restart in safe mode and do a debug install.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Urgh! Sorry to bump an old thread but I finally decided to build a new PC and make the jump to windows 7. So far this is the only piece of hardware I own thats giving me grief! But its an important one! So only Spyder2express 2.3.6 will run on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit? So the Pro version I spent money on is useless now? Good customer support DataColor! Now I have to buy a Spyder3?

Technology marches on..
A no cost solution is to use your existing Spyder2 puck with free open source calibration software.
A temporary solution is download and use the trial version of ColorEyes Display pro software.
Best solution is buy a brand new calibration kit. While colorimeters last a long time, they do age and you may need a new one anyway. And no need to restrict yourself to DataColor/Spyder products.

Hi everyone. I realize this post may be a bit dated but I am looking to get a cheap version of Spyder2pro used for my Windows 7 64 bit computer. I was worried that it would not work on the 64 bit. Seeing others say it works is great but what software do I need to update to before installing? It looks like the Datacolor 64 bit download is from 2008? Is there another download I am not aware of? Any links or tips to where I can download the correct software on this issue would be EXCELLENT! Thanks all. Cheers

Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life.
